Create Your Own Web Site

Use Your IFS Home Directory

You can create a web site by creating HTML files and putting them in a special folder in your IFS home directory. Files put in that folder are published on the web.

For details about putting your files in that folder, see the "Publishing Your Web Site Using Your Home Directory" section of Using Your IFS Home Directory Over the Web with mFile (S4311).

Name the file for your home page index.html and put it in your HTML folder (inside your Public folder, which is inside your home directory). You will then be able to view the page at this URL:

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~youruniqname/
(Where you have substituted your own uniqname for youruniqname.)

Tips About the Web

See the FAQ about the World Wide Web for additional information.

Publish your Home Page in the U-M Gateway

If you would like other people to be able to find your home page by searching from the University of Michigan Home Page , add the URL to your U-M Online Directory entry and modify your "More Info" attribute to include the URL and a label.

Note that once you add your URL to your U-M Online Directory entry, people will be able to find your home page easily just by looking at your directory entry. If you don't want this, don't modify your directory entry.
